The Delray Beach Housing Authority has been in operation since 1973 and has 2 rental assistance programs; the Section 8 Choice Voucher Program and the Tenant Based Rental Assistance Program and a Family Self-Sufficiency Program as well. Areas covered by the Delray Beach Housing Authority extend 10 miles beyond the municipal boundaries of the City of Delray Beach Eligibility for affordable housing is based on the annual income and size of a family. It is limited to U. S. citizens and certain categories of non-citizens. |
| Tenant Based Rental Assistance Tenant Based Rental Assistance (TBRA) has a total of 218 families. This program provides rental assistance to individuals affected by Hurricane Wilma for a period of two (2) years. |
| Section 8 Program The Section 8 Program provides assistance for low income families in the private rental market through the Housing Assistance Payments Program. Rental Voucher Holders select a unit from the private rental market. Rental assistance makes market rate housing affordable. Program participants normally pay no more than 30% of monthly adjusted income towards rent and utilities. The Housing Assistance Payment subsidizes the balance of the rent to the property owner. The Section 8 Program serves a total number of families of 1,041 families, and includes a Project Based Over 55 (145 individuals) portion. This program provides rental Assistance to eligible individuals who pay rent to a landlord. |
| Family Self-Sufficiency Program The Family Self-Sufficiency Program promotes employment and increased savings for families on assisted living. It also helps them to become economically independent, get jobs, further their education and eventually purchase a home. |
